Academy of Music, University of Zagreb
The Academy of Music of the University of Zagreb is the largest and oldest institution of higher music education in Croatia, tracing its roots to the Croatian Music Institute founded in 1829. Since 1921 it has operated as a higher education institution, and since 1979 it has been part of the University of Zagreb.
The Academy brings together students and faculty from around the world, fostering artistic excellence, pedagogical quality, and professional development. Its programs cover eight departments: Composition and Music Theory, Musicology, Conducting, Harp and Percussion, Voice, Piano, Organ and Harpsichord, String Instruments and Guitar, Wind Instruments, and Music Pedagogy and Tambura.
Throughout the academic year, the Academy hosts over 300 concerts, productions, and events, including its own cycles Vivat Academia and Vivant Professores, the Anabasis organ concert series, and major performances in the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall. Students regularly perform as soloists with the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra and participate in opera productions in collaboration with the Croatian National Theatre. The Academy also organizes concerts for children and youth to cultivate a new generation of music lovers.
Through its teaching, performances, and international collaborations, the Academy of Music continues to promote the highest standards of musical education and contributes to the cultural life of Zagreb, Croatia, and the world.
