RULES<\/strong><\/p>\n

GENERAL<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. The Academy of Music, University of Zagreb, organizes the first International Singing Competition Milka Ternina<\/em> in Zagreb, Croatia.<\/li>\n
  2. The competition consists of two categories:
    \na. OPERA Category: for female singers up to 30 years of age \/ male singers up to 32 years of age at the time of the competition
    \nb. YOUNG SINGERS Category: for all competitors up to 24 years of age at the time of the competition<\/li>\n
  3. The Milka Ternina Competition is open to candidates of all nationalities.<\/li>\n
  4. Contestants are required to adhere to the rules, performance regulations, and decisions of the Jury.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    APPLICATION PROCEDURE<\/strong><\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Singers wishing to participate must apply through the online form at www.competition-milka-ternina.com<\/em>.<\/em> An audiovisual recording is an integral part of the application for the purpose of preselection. The complete application and all required documentation must be submitted by the stated deadline. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.<\/li>\n
    2. Each candidate must pay a participation fee:
      \na. YOUNG SINGERS Category \u20ac60
      \nb. OPERA Category \u20ac80
      \nThis fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.<\/li>\n
    3. The Selection Committee will conduct a preselection process based on submitted applications and recordings. Selected candidates will be notified in writing.<\/li>\n
    4. Candidates who have won first prize at a renowned international singing competition within the past year may request direct entry into the semifinals. A copy of the diploma \/ award must be submitted. The registration fee remains unchanged. The Jury Panel makes the final decision.<\/li>\n
    5. Contestants must personally register (passport or another valid ID required) at the Competition Office at the Academy of Music in Zagreb prior to the competition.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      ASSESSMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n

        \n
      1. Candidates will be graded with points during each stage, but scores will only be announced after the conclusion of the competition. The competition secretariat will publish a list of contestants (alphabetically) selected for the next stage.<\/li>\n
      2. The Jury\u2019s decisions are final and cannot be appealed.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        SHEET MUSIC, ACCOMPANISTS, ORCHESTRAL REHEARSAL<\/strong><\/p>\n

          \n
        1. The competition provides official pianists for contestants. Each contestant has the right to one rehearsal with the pianist before each stage. Candidates who wish to perform with the official accompanist must:
          \na) Provide clear, printed, and easily legible sheet music two months before the start of the competition.
          \nb) In special cases, the organizer may require submission of music material in advance for preliminary study.<\/li>\n
        2. Contestants may bring their own pianist at their own expense.<\/li>\n
        3. Finalists are entitled to one orchestral rehearsal the day before the final.<\/li>\n
        4. For the Final, candidates select one aria from the following list: DOCUMENT<\/a><\/span>.<\/li>\n
        5. Contestants intending to perform unpublished works or works outside the standard repertoire must, at the request of the organizer, provide a copy of the sheet music for the Jury.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          COMPETITION STRUCTURE<\/strong><\/p>\n

            \n
          1. Opera Category consists of four stages:<\/strong>
            \nPreselection based on recordings
            \nPreliminary Round
            \nSemifinal
            \nFinal<\/li>\n
          2. Young Singers Category consists of three stages:<\/strong>
            \nPreselection based on recordings
            \nFirst Round
            \nSecond Round<\/li>\n
          3. For the Opera Category: 16\u201320 contestants will advance to the Semifinal; 8 -10 will be selected for the Final.
            \nFor the Young Singers Category: 8-10 contestants from the First Round will advance to the Second Round.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            COMPETITION PROGRAM<\/strong><\/p>\n

              \n
            1. Each contestant must indicate the program for all stages in their application.<\/li>\n
            2. Program Requirements:
              \nOpera Category
              \n<\/strong>Preselection<\/em>: Video recording up to 8 minutes. Must be recent (not older than 6 months). Free choice of repertoire.
              \nPreliminary Round<\/em> (duration up to 12 minutes):
              \n1. Opera or concert aria by W. A. Mozart
              \n2. One opera aria from any musical period
              \nSemifinal<\/em> (duration up to 12 minutes):
              \n1. Opera aria from the Romantic period
              \n2. Opera or concert aria
              \nFinal<\/em>:
              \nOne opera aria with orchestra, chosen from the provided list:               DOCUMENT<\/a><\/span>.
              \nYoung Singers Category
              \n<\/strong>Preselection<\/em>: Video recording up to 8 minutes. Must be recent (not older than 6 months). Free choice of repertoire.
              \nFirst Round<\/em> (duration up to 12 minutes):
              \n1. Art song by a Croatian composer
              \n2. One art song of free choice
              \n3. Opera or concert aria
              \nSecond Round<\/em> (duration up to 12 minutes):
              \n1. Aria from a passion, oratorio, mass, or cantata composed before 1760
              \n2. Opera or concert aria<\/li>\n
            3. All works must be performed in the original language and must include at least three different languages in the repertoire. Works performed in one stage may not be repeated in subsequent stages.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

              PERFORMANCE RULES<\/strong><\/p>\n

                \n
              1. In each stage, contestants must perform their selected program without interruption.<\/li>\n
              2. Contestants may determine the order of pieces within each stage.<\/li>\n
              3. Programs must be performed from memory. All arias must be sung in the original key. Art songs may be transposed.<\/li>\n
              4. All competition stages will be open to the public. The audience must follow the instructions announced at the beginning of each stage.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                JUDGING PROCEDURE<\/strong><\/p>\n

                  \n
                1. Performances will be assessed according to the principles and procedures defined in the Jury Regulations.<\/li>\n
                2. When selecting finalists and deciding on awards, the Jury will consider the overall impression of each contestant throughout all previous stages.<\/li>\n
                3. The Jury\u2019s decisions are final.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                  JURY REGULATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n

                    \n
                  1. The organizer (Academy of Music, Zagreb) appoints the Jury.<\/li>\n
                  2. The Jury evaluates: technical skill, vocal quality, musical interpretation, difficulty of program, and artistic personality.<\/li>\n
                  3. Candidates are graded: 0 -25 points<\/li>\n
                  4. Final selection is based on the overall impression across all stages.<\/li>\n
                  5. Jury meetings are closed and confidential.<\/li>\n
                  6. A jury member must not evaluate a candidate who is currently their student.<\/li>\n
                  7. Jury decisions are final and not subject to appeal.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                    PRIZES<\/strong><\/p>\n

                      \n
                    1. An honorary diploma will be awarded to all finalists. Prizes are:
                      \nOpera Category:
                      \n<\/strong>I Prize: \u20ac5,000
                      \nII Prize: \u20ac3,000
                      \nIII Prize: \u20ac2,000
                      \nYoung Singers Category:
                      \n<\/strong>I Prize: \u20ac2,000
                      \nII Prize: \u20ac1,500
                      \nIII Prize: \u20ac1,000<\/li>\n
                    2. The Jury reserves the right to withhold or share prizes.<\/li>\n
                    3. Special awards will be granted in the form of professional engagements, performances, auditions, recordings, as well as financial and sponsored prizes, in cooperation with renowned Croatian artistic institutions, festivals, orchestras, media organizations, and cultural institutions.<\/li>\n
                    4. The award ceremony will take place after the Final. Prize winners in both categories must be present to collect their award in person.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                      OTHER RULES AND REGULATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n

                        \n
                      1. The organizer holds unlimited rights to broadcast and record competition performances on TV, radio, the internet, and other media networks without payment to contestants or their accompanists. The organizer or a third party retains the right to archive and publish competition details and performances without time or territorial limits.<\/li>\n
                      2. Certain stages will be streamed live.<\/li>\n
                      3. The organizer is not obliged to provide contestants with recordings of their performances.<\/li>\n
                      4. The organizer may disqualify any contestant who fails to comply with the rules.<\/li>\n
                      5. The original language of these rules is Croatian. In case of dispute, the Croatian version shall prevail.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                        ABOUT THE COMPETITION
                        \n<\/strong>The competition is designed for two categories of singers: young singers at the beginning of their professional careers and talented singers up to 24 years of age.
